A Kachin politician joins NUG team

NUG Deputy Minister Maw Htun Aung

A Myitkyina born Kachin politician has recently joined the ministerial team of Burma’s parallel National Unity Government (NUG), accepting the position of Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy.

Maw Htun Aung has been appointed as the Deputy Minster of NUG’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy, according to the statement released by NUG on last Monday.

Maw Htun Aung is a dedicated policy entrepreneur with decades long policy advocacy experience. He was born in Kachin State and raised in Yangon. In November 2020, Maw Htun Aung run an office for a constituency in Muse Township representing the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) party. However, he didn’t won the position.

Maw Htun Aung is the forth Kachin national who joined the NUG team, followed by the Vice President Duwa Lashi La, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Reservation Dr. Hkalaen Tu Hkawng, Deputy Education Minster Maran Ja Htoi Pan and the Deputy Minster of International Cooperation Stella Hkawng Naw.
