A Kachin medical doctor, who is voluntarily helping internally displaced persons in central Burma of Sagaing Region, was detained by the soldiers loyal to Burmese military Junta.

Dr. Zau Htoi Awng was arrested last Friday at his own Manau Garden restaurant in Monywa town in central Burma along with his brother-in-law and a restaurant staff, according to the local sources.

He was arrested at his home just after he came back from delivering medical assistance to the local displaced people in the Sagaing Region, as well as for his deteriorating health conditions. Dr. Zau Htoi Awng is well known for giving medical assistance to the local displaced persons who are resisting military rule in the country.

Family members are worried about Dr. Zau Htoi Awng’s health condition and not knowing of his current location where he might be facing harsh situations by the military interrogators.
