Explosion hit a toll gate in northern Shan State

Damaged Asia World toll Gate in Kyaukme / CJ

A toll gate located on the Burma’s major highway to China was damaged by the explosion last night in the Kyaukme Town of northern Shan State.

The incident happened around 7 pm last night and no one was reportedly injured, according to local witness. No one claims to be responsible for the explosion.

The destroyed toll gate is run by the Asia World Company, a subsidiary of Asia World Group. The current owner of Asia World Group is Steven Law, a son of former drug lord Lo Hsing Han. Asia World Group is the largest and most diversify conglomerate in Burma, with interest in industrial development, construction, transportation, import-export, and local supermarket chain.

Kyaukme Town is situated 175 kilometres northeast of the country’s second largest city Mandalay. The town is located on the Mandalay-Muse, a border town on Chinese border.
