Kachin Baptist wants ending military dictatorship

Northern Burma based Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) announced yesterday that the religious organization longs for the ending the military dictatorship in the country, reiterating its stand on truth and justice.

“Uproot all kinds of dictatorship,” said in the KBC statement released yesterday. “Establish a Federal Union based on a new constitution by abolishing the 2008 constitution.” KBC mention that the 2008 constitution is the main obstacles to solve the country’s political problems and ethnic conflicts.

We the KBC and its members showed witness today that we all stand and desire together with all the citizens of Burma to get out under the decades long military rule in the country, said KBC Chairman Rev. Dr. Hkalam Samson today in the prayer meeting at the Nawng Nang Kachin Theological College and Seminary (KCTS).

On last Monday, KBC joined together with other Christian organization to hold the anti-coup prayer demonstration in the Kachin State capital Myitkyina. On February 10th, KBC announced all its member Churches to participate peacefully anti-coup demonstration in support for current Civil Disobedient Movement (CDM) against military regime.

A few days after Burma’s military coup, KBC is the first religious organization showed its stand against February 1st military coup in the country, saying the organization is unfailingly stands on the side of civilians and righteousness according to the teaching of the Bible.

KBC has almost half a million members, and the organization was founded in 1910. It has 15 Associations and over 300 Churches.
