The leaders of Kachin Humanitarian Concern Committee (KHCC) held a meeting with Burmese government’s Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye on last Friday, discussing for the resettlement of Kachin war refugees.
The leaders of KHCC also met with Internally Displaced Person (IDP) working committee of Burma National Reconciliation and Peace Centre (NRPC) at the Burma’s capital of Naypyidaw, according the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC). KHCC was led by the Chairman of the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) Rev. Dr. Hkalam Samson along with KBC General Secretary Rev. Hpauyawng Tu Mai.
The main reason of the meeting is that KHCC would like to be collaborated with the Kachin State government, when the resettlement program for Kachin IDPs would be materialized in order to boost the relocation process, according to the KBC. KHCC also emphasizes on official help to IDPs who voluntarily returned home and would like to return home. The humanitarian committed also requested NRPC to hold the further meeting with Kachin Independence Organization (KIO).
KHCC was founded by the Kachin faith leaders different Christian denominations in 2017 to address the issues concerning Kachin IDPs, who were displaced by the renewed war between the Burma Army and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), an armed wing of Kachin Independence Organizatioin (KIO).
The Chairman of KHCC is Dr. Hkalam Samson from KBC and the Vice-Chairman is the Roman Catholic Fr. Paul Awng Dang. The organization has been advocating both the Burmese government and the Kachin Independence Organization to reach an bilateral ceasefire agreement for the safe and dignify return home of over a hundred thousand Kachin IDPs.
