Kachin women became NUG’s deputy minister

A second Kachin women has yesterday joined the team of Burma’s National Government (NUG) as the Deputy Minster of International Cooperation, expanding the parallel government with gender and ethnicity balance.

Mrs. Hkawng Naw also known as Stella was originally from Myitkyina, Kachin State, and she is a political writer and activist focusing on peace and conflict in Burma, with a particular scope on ethnic groups in northern Burma.

She was nominated by the World Kachin Congress (WKC) and submitted her designation by the Kachin Political Interim Coordination Team (KPICT) to National Unity Government.

She was graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, one of the best University in the world. She did as a peace researcher at the graduate studies program of University of Oslo, Norway and she was a fellow at the Obama Foundation Leaders of Asia Pacific.

In mid April, NUG appointed three Kachin Individuals including a Kachin women Maran Ja Htoi Pan as the Deputy Minister of Education for Burma’s parallel government.
