KBC raises Kachin refugee issue

The Chairman of Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) Rev. Dr. Hkalam Samson had discussed the issue facing Kachin war refugees, during the meeting with U.S Ambassador to Burma Scot Marciel yesterday in Yangon.

Rev. Samson raised the case of returning home for over a hundred thousand Kachin Internally Displaced Person (IDP) in Kachin State of northern Burma and, the resettlement of Kachin refugees in Malaysia to United States, according to KBC. He also discussed the potential ceasefire agreement between Burma Army and Kachin Independence Organization (KIO).

Dr. Samson’s meeting with U.S Ambassador Scot was the one of the stopover trip after he came back from overseas meeting with Kachin communities. He was the one of the special guest at the World Kachin Congress conference at the end of October in Malaysia. He also met with hundred of Kachin refugees living in Malaysia, as well as held a meeting with Kachin students studying in South Korea.

In mid August 2019, U.S Ambassador Scot Marciel held a meeting with Rev. Samson who was on the way back from United States after participating the International Religious Freedom Conference and meeting with U.S President Donald Trump at the Oval Office.
