A militia leader working for Burmese military regime was killed at his home in Nawngmi village on the Ledo Road of Hukawng Valley in western Kachin State.
The militia leader Hpone Kyaw was assassinated on last Thursday night by the soldiers from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)’s battalion 14th of 2nd Brigade, according to the KIA.
On Wednesday, KIA launched an assassination attempt against another militia leader Min Zin Thant from nearby village of Shaduzup on Ledo Road. However, the raid of Shaduzup militia leader’s home was disrupted and KIA lost four of its soldiers.
Both militia leaders in Hukawng Valley are collaboration with Burmese military regime and accused of engaged in illegal logging, mining and drugs.
Shaduzup village is located about 130 kilometres northwest of the Kachin State capital Myitkyina.
