The World Kachin Congress (WKC), which represents Kachin living abroad, donated almost US $9000 worth of basic foods and necessity items to the Arakan war refugees in Burma’s western Arakan State, a move to help alleviating the humanitarian crisis in war-torn region of the Southeast Asian nation.
The donation was received yesterday by the Arakan State based Mayyu Region Philanthropic Organization (MRPO) and its volunteers are planning to distribute the donation items to respective Internally Displace Person (IDP) camps. Over 200,000 peoples have already been displaced by the Burma Army’s offensive Arakan and Chin State of western Burma, according to the Arakan Army (AA).
This is a display of our stand and showing love to each other as the Kachin and Arakan people are in the same page of suffering caused by the Burma Army’s military offensive, WKC Vice Chairperson N’lam La Seng told The Kachin Post. The donation was collected through Kachin communities from over a dozen countries around the world, La Seng said.
In last April, World Kachin Congress raised serious concern over the looming humanitarian crisis in Arakan State due to the Burma Army’s major offensive against Arakan Army during the COVID-19 pandemic. WKC issued a statement, condemning Burma Army’s inhumane acts and calling U.N Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to investigate the brutal killing of civilians in Arakan and Chin State.
The World Kachin Congress is a network of Kachin organizations and communities around the world. The organization was founded in 2018 and headquartered at Washington D.C in the United States.
